Throughout her extensive travels to countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Morocco, Mexico, Thailand, and Russia, Ms. Bryant has studied the traditional fibers of many diverse cultures, and incorporates elements of their textiles into her artwork. The clothing and blankets produced by these societies, as with all groups of people throughout the world, tell the history of each particular culture.
Although Ms. Bryant's paintings appear to be purely abstract, they are created with the histories and traditions of these peoples in mind. Her work consists of layer after layer of paint, which culminates in works full of not only color, but also underlying strata of subtle mark making.
Sandi Seltzer Bryant is an alum of Carnegie Mellon University where she received her B.F.A. in Painting. Her work has been exhibited throughout Texas and California, New York, London, Paris and numerous other venues around the United States. A longtime staple in the Houston art scene, Ms. Bryant's work is well known and collected throughout the country, and as far away as Seoul, Korea.
