Born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1948, Keith Carter moved to Beaumont, Texas at the age of five and has lived there since. He developed his talents as a photographer essentially in isolation, with advice from David Cargill, a friend and fellow artist. Today, Carter is an internationally recognized photographer and educator. He holds the endowed Walles Chair of Art at Lamar University, and eight books on his work have been published. His photographs are included in numerous permanent collections and have appeared in a multitude of solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad.

Mr. Carter's work is included in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago,Chicago, Illinois; Getty Museum, Los Angeles, California; Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, Dallas, Texas; Menil Collection, Houston, Texas; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; Amon Carter Museum, Ft.
