Even though Texas artist Robert Kinsell is best known for his unconventional still-life paintings he often introduces the use of landscape, either as a background motif or as an integral part of the painting. In addition to physically setting up the work, Mr. Kinsell will also use a computerized studio to create many of the compositions.
In talking about his interest in still-life paintings Mr. Kinsell says; "I paint still-life paintings because of the world of things that I might otherwise go through life ignoring. In painting these things, I pay some minor homage to the complex and miraculous fact of sight. The fall of light, the visual evocations of the feel of a surface, the nuance of color, all this and more continually seduce me into trying to create equivalents of visual phenomenon out of paint on a flat surface.
