Continuing her exploration of motion and fluidity, Sydney Yeager's new paintings deal with pattern, rhythm, abstraction, and hesitation. The richness of the winding forms carries the viewer smoothly through the painting, only to be disturbed by a sudden shift in pattern. Ms. Yeager describes the interruptions as "visual 'folds' that create a little blip, a quick questioning of perception, a 'blink' that slows the motion of the eye for a fraction of second." Without this intentional disturbance of pattern these might simply be beautiful paintings, but it is Ms. Yeager's intentional interruption of motion that adds visual tension and interest.
Austin artist Sydney Yeager recently returned to the States from the American Academy in Rome, where she was a visiting artist.
