Keith Carter's newest body of work, ". . . Only a little planet," is comprised of photographs taken in locations ranging from Carter's hometown of Beaumont, Texas to Mexico, England, Switzerland, Italy, and Norway. This work, which he created over the past two years, explores "the passage of time, the temporal beauty of memory, and the universal courage of the human spirit." Dreamlike and often askew, these portraits are more than images of people or things. These are photographs about courage, character, and soul that offer more than aesthetic beauty.
Also included in this exhibition is a very personal series of photographs Mr. Carter took of his late mother during her battle with Alzheimer's disease. While he was growing up, Mr. Carter's mother, Jane Davis Goodrich, photographed children for a living. Keith first experienced the magic of photography as a young boy while playing in the kitchen that his mother converted into a darkroom. These emotional portraits depict the photographer's struggle to accept that the woman who once gave him the confidence and encouragement to pursue photography was withering away, both in body and mind.
